The project "Supporting Moldova's National Climate Change Adaptation Planning Process" participated on Saturday, May 14, 2016, in the events dedicated to Europe Day.
In this context, the Project has set up a tent within the European Village, in the Stefan cel Mare park in Chisinau, where more information was provided with reference to EU support to climate change adaptation for our country -a growing challenge.
The objective was to contribute to a better knowledge of European values and principles, and to inform Moldovan citizens about the opportunities offered by development projects supported by international organizations and donor countries.
In this context, the leaflets distributed near the Project's tent were meant to inform all about the sectoral progress in climate change adaptation.
The Project Team provided information to visitors about successful projects implemented in six districts of our country and offered more details about the national adaptation process and the undertaken efforts to anticipate the negative effects of climate change.
The organizers also presented a comprehensive program for all ages, including exhibitions, fairs, tastings and competitions for children, concerts and theatrical moments in order to inform citizens of our country about the traditions, culture and souvenirs of EU countries.
In the opening speeches, the Moldovan officials spoke about European values and the Head of EU Delegation in Moldova, Pirkka Tapiola addressed the audience in Romanian.
"The relation between the EU and Moldova is probably the strongest and the most ambitious of all the relationships that we enjoy with any of our partners. It is our joint success ", said the Head of EU Delegation in Moldova, Pirkka Tapiola.
"I'd like to be the last president of the Republic of Moldova before becoming a candidate member of the European Union. Happy birthday, Europe! Happy birthday, Moldova, "said Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti.
Chisinau residents and guests were greeted by the president of the parliament, Andrian Candu and the Prime Minister, Pavel Filip.
The Central Park was flooded on Saturday, with tents and projects' presentations financed by the EU, while the Member States' and the candidate countries embassies presented European culture and cuisine. Visitors also enjoyed a large concert, supported by local performers.
To recall, Europe Day is celebrated annually on May 9. Also, celebrating Europe Day in Moldova has a special significance for the entire country, as it is a major objective in its journey towards what is now the European Union, along with EU symbols.
The participation of the project "Supporting Moldova's National Climate Change Adaptation Planning Process" to the events dedicated to Europe Day was organized by the Climate Change Office, Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova with the support of the Austrian Cooperation Development Agency (ACDA / ADA) and guidance from UNDP.
